Retailers, banks and the Postbank may credit accounts a few hours earlier or later than the exact working day.
When to collect (or wait)
You do not have to collect on the first day. Once the money is deposited it stays in the account or on the card. The busiest — and most dangerous — days are usually the first two of each month; consider collecting on day three or four instead.
Bank tip: If your grant is paid into a personal bank account, use your bank's cash-back or online banking to avoid queues at branches. Many stores allow up to R5 000 cash-back on a card purchase.
SRD R370 payment timing
SRD grants roll out over 15–20 days each month. SASSA staggers payments by the last two digits of your ID number to avoid overwhelming pay channels. Watch for an SMS confirming that funds have been released.
If your payment is late
- Confirm your status shows Paid. If it still says Pending, funds haven't been released — no action needed yet.
- Check your bank/Postbank account and any linked retailer card.
- Look for an SMS from SASSA confirming the payment channel used.
- If 5 working days pass with no payment, call the SASSA toll-free line on 0800 60 10 11.
Payment channels
- Bank deposit — into any South African bank account in your own name.
- SASSA/Postbank Gold card — usable at ATMs, POS terminals and Post Office branches.
- Retailer collection — collect cash at participating Boxer, Checkers, Pick n Pay, Shoprite or Usave tills for free.
- Cash paypoints — mobile paypoints still operate in a few rural areas.
Public holidays
When a public holiday falls at the start of the month (New Year's Day, Human Rights Day, Freedom Day, Workers' Day, Youth Day, Heritage Day, Reconciliation Day, Christmas or Boxing Day) SASSA moves each grant to the working day before, in the same order shown above.
