Introducing Montegray & Independents, Stellies newest and most trendy (plus instagrammable) wine bar!
Opening its doors to the masses this week, we were lucky to get a sneak peak of the offering inside. Located along Bird Street and neighbours to already existing wine and champagne bar Bartinney, Monetgray & Independents gets its name from two elements. Montegray is the new, single vineyard wine range offering from the creative winemakers at Bartinney. Independents refers to a selection of winemakers whose wines will also be available for tasting in the bar on a rotating basis. There will also be a selection of locally produced artisanal gins (no ‘gin fatigue’ for us just yet!) as well as a flavourful selection of tapas-style snacks such as tuna ceviche (hello drool face) and cheese and charcuterie platters.
The classy bar space is the brainchild of powerhouse couple Rose and Michael Jordaan, who have been making waves with the Bartinney winery since 2006. The husband and wife team have always been passionate about making things better, and we would argue that they’ve made definitive headway in the world of local wine bars thanks to their particularly popular Bartinney Wine and Champagne bar and now their newly-launched space of Montegray & Independents.
When asked whether opening a wine bar next to another wine bar is a bit superfluous, Creative Designer and Leisure Manager Dewet Dev says “if we can get more South Africans to come and experience wine in beautiful spaces, then why not?”.
We can’t help but agree …
