The SRD grant has been extended until 31 March 2027 with R36.4 billion allocated. The government plans to redesign it into a livelihoods support grant.

Who Qualifies for the SRD R370 Grant?

Eligibility requirements for the SASSA Social Relief of Distress grant in 2026.

Eligibility Criteria

  • ✓ Age: Between 18 and 59 years old
  • ✓ Citizenship: South African citizen, permanent resident, refugee, asylum seeker, or special permit holder
  • ✓ Employment: Currently unemployed with no income (or income below R625 per month)
  • ✓ Other Grants: Not receiving any other social grant (except the Child Support Grant)
  • ✓ UIF: Not receiving unemployment insurance (UIF) benefits
  • ✓ NSFAS: Not receiving a stipend from the National Student Financial Aid Scheme

How to Apply for the SRD R370 Grant

Visit the Official Portal

Go to srd.sassa.gov.za and click "Apply Online".

Enter Your Details

Provide your ID number, cellphone number, and banking information.

Verify via OTP

You will receive an OTP on your cellphone. Enter it to confirm your application.

Wait for Processing

SASSA will process your application. Check your status weekly using the tool above or any of the 6 methods.

How to Appeal a Declined SASSA SRD Application

If your SASSA status check shows "Declined", you have the right to appeal within 90 days.

Submit Your Appeal Online

Go to the Appeals Portal

Visit srd.sassa.gov.za/appeals/appeal.

Enter Your ID and Phone Number

Use the same ID and cellphone number from your original application.

Verify with OTP

Request and enter the OTP sent to your registered cellphone number.

Select Declined Month and Reason

Choose the specific month that was declined and select the correct appeal reason. Each declined month needs a separate appeal.

Submit and Save Confirmation

Submit your appeal and save the confirmation as proof. The Independent Tribunal (ITSAA) will review your case.

Deadline: You must submit your appeal within 90 days of receiving the declined decision. If your appeal is also rejected, you can submit a new appeal the following month.
